Tyler Phillips Music, in association with Kamelrock Productions , presents "Composed" - the first concert in the brand new "Name'NLights" Cabaret Series. Backed by a live band, a group of talented NYC vocalists perform music by new composers. Tyler Phillips, Andrew Heyman, Jonathan Russ, and Sam Salmond are among some of the new writers featured in this one-night-only concert event.
Jonathan Russ is a composer and guitarist working in musical theater, concert music, and rock music. His musical FOUR (Molly McQue, book and lyrics) was recently workshopped as part of the NYU Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program's First Look Series. Songs For Waking (text by Molly McQue), a song cycle commissioned to commemorate the recent presidential debate at Hofstra University, was performed by the American Chamber Ensemble at Hofstra in September 2008. Other recent works include the short musical The Last Polaroid (Robert Edridge-Waks, book and lyrics), Collaborative Nature (film score), and One Who Lies In Wait (dance score; Hannah Kohl, co-composer). He is currently working on a musical about the American lawn (EllaRose Chary and Angela Thurston, book and lyrics). His music has been heard at Hofstra and Manhattan School Of Music as well as in showcases at the Triad Theater, Barrington Stage Company, and Juilliard School. He holds a B.A. in Music from Brown University and an M.F.A. in Musical Theater Writing from NYU.
Andrew Heyman is a composer/lyricist with roots firmly planted in rock & roll. He got his start writing and performing with the New Jersey-based pop punk band Spitting Image before attending Princeton University, where he earned a BA in Classics. In college Andrew began writing music, lyrics, and sketches for The Princeton Triangle Club, the school’s student-run musical comedy troupe. He helped write four shows with Triangle, two of which were performed at the McCarter Theater to fully packed houses and went on to tour the United States. He also continued to write and perform both solo and with the rock band The Impulsives, recording and releasing an album entitled "Panoply" in 2007. Andrew recently received an MFA from the Tisch Graduated Musical Theatre Writing Program as a member of Cycle 18, where he wrote music and lyrics for the full length musical "Together This Time" (book & lyrics by Zac Kline) and music for the 20-minute musical "Hero Complex" (book & lyrics by Kat Harris). Andrew currently resides in Manhattan, where he works for The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization and acts as theatrical consultant and intern for Blinding Science Entertainment Laboratories.
Samuel Salmond is currently attending NYU’s Graduate Music Theatre Writing Program as
a Lyricist/ Bookwriter. It’s super awesome. Sam just graduated from Baldwin Wallace College with a degree in Music Composition. It was pretty awesome. He wrote the Music, Lyrics and Book to In the Air, which premiered in February, 2009.
Tyler Phillips is a composer/songwriter from Texas who had his first show staged at the age of 15 at The Magik Theatre, San Antonio (A WAY TO LOVE) followed by presentations of his musicals at the NESA Theater, San Antonio (SIXTEEN, 16) and The Zachary Scott Theater in Austin (CITY LIFE). At 17, he had his first Off-Broadway reading (FAIREST OF THEM ALL) at the York Theatre and recently a reading of his latest show (THE AMAZING RIVER PARADE) at the Laurie Beechman Theater where he has regular songbook evenings. |
